The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has provisionally suspended Zerfe Wondemagegn of Ethiopia for the Presence/Use of a Prohibited Substance (EPO), which is a breach of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules.
The 21 year-old who is also the reigning African 3000m steeplechase silver medallist, was the youngest ever Ethiopian athlete to represent her country at the 2019 World Athletics championships at the age of 16.
Wondemagegn also broke Ethiopian U20 3000m steeplechase record with a time of 9:16.95 which elevated her to the fourth place on the World U20 all-time list.
Two years ago she was nominated in the female category of the Rising Star awards by World Athletics.
