World record holder in 1500m, 5000m and One Mile, Faith Kipyegon gifted her country the first gold medal in the women 1500m race at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest, held on Tuesday evening.
Kipyegon went through the 800m mark in 2:11.8 and kept the pace steady as she gradually engaged her gear, gaining the moment down the backstretch as Welteji tried to keep the chase while Hassan was fighting with her body to respond fast but could not respond to her in time as Kipyegon trounced the two with a lightning speed and crossing the finish line first in 3:54.87 with the 2018 World U20 champion, Diribe Welteji from Ethiopia in a time of 3:55.69 with history making woman of all time Sifan Hassan from the Dutch wrapping up the podium three finishes in a time 3:56.00.
