The reigning Madrid 10km Road Race champion Hillary Kipkoech won the 3rd edition of the Moi Girls’ Kapsowar Charity and Conservation 10km road race held on Saturday (10) in Kapsowar, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Kipkoech, who is chasing for a slot in the team Kenya for the coming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, took the top honors in a time of 28:32.3 beating James Koech to second in 28:36.9 with the 2017 National 10,000m champion Mathew Kimeli closing the podium three finishes in a time of 28:415.
Kipkoech who is fresh from taking silver in 10,000m race at the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) track and field championships, said that he was using the race as part of his training ahead of national championships that will be held in two weeks’ time at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
“This race was tough looking at the hilly course but the victory came in handy as a consolation. My intention is to run well and represent this country in major events especially at the World Championships in Budapest,” said Kipckoech, the Castelone 10km champion.
