Tokyo Olympics 3000m steeplechase silver medallist, Lamecha Girma’s World record has been officially ratified by the World Athletics.
The 22 year-old who had set his sight on the Qatar’s Saif Saaeed Shaheen nineteen year record of 7:53.63, had requested for ambitious pace that would result in lowering the world. The fast pace paid off as he produced a performance of his life time smashing the old record with a new record of 7:52.11 taking off 1.52 seconds.
Lamecha who is also the reigning World Indoor 3000m record holder, said he executed well his plan and it worked after a lot of efforts and hard-work.
“I’m happy and very proud. I felt so fast during the race, so confident. The world record is not a surprise; it was my plan to beat it tonight in Paris. It’s the result of my full determination,” said Girma
