Double World Athletics Under-20 bronze medallist, Prisca Chesang beat two world record holders at the 58th edition of the San Silvestre Vallecana 10km Road Race held on the New Year eve in Madrid, Spain.
The 19 years-old, demonstrated her talent on the Madrid asphalt to win with much superiority when beating the two-time world indoor champion, Francine Niyonsaba, who became the first athlete to be identified as having DSD to officially break a world record when clocking 5:21.26 for 2000m and the World 3000m steeplechase record holder, Beatrice Chepkoech.
Chesang who came to this race with a personal best of 32:42 that she got last year at the TCS World 10K Bengaluru where she finished in tenth place, beat the two world record holders when she slashed over two minutes from her previous best to cut the tape in a new life time best of 30:19.
The two-time world indoor champion, Niyonsaba, who was making the debut over the distance and was the race favorite was relegated to second in a personal best of 30:58 with the 2019 World 3000m steeplechase chase champion, chepkoech closing the podium three finishes in a new personal best of 31:06.
Reigning Ethiopian 10km National champion Mahlet Mulugeta and Spain’s Naima Ait Alibou came home in fourth and fifth place in a time of 31:57 and 32:36 (pb) respectively.
