The five times World Cross Country Champion and the first Kenyan man to set the World marathon record in 2003, with a time of 2:04.55, Paul Tergat has been named the Bathurst 2023 World Cross Country Championships Ambassador.
The National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) president was named by the World Athletics as the ambassador for the championships set for February 18th in Bathurst, Australia.
“Cross country brings out all the elements an athlete wants to experience in running- the thrill, the twists and turns in different courses simply incredible challenges to overcome before you finish. I think it is actually like the story of life”, said Tergat.
The NOC-K supremo played a similar role when the event was held in Kampala 2017.
He is not only a cross-country great but is also an Olympic silver medalist in 10,000m- Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000.
