Two time Commonwealth Games 800m champion Wycliffe Kinyamal will be the man to watch at 47th edition of the Memorial Van Damme Diamond League Meeting set for today (Friday, 08) in Brussels, Belgium.
The 26 year-old who missed to participate in his specialty at the recent World Athletics Championships due to failure to get the automatic qualification at the Kenyan National trials after finishing fourth, will shift his focus to Brussels where he heads with the fastest time in the world this season of 1:44.22 that he got in July at the Monaco Meeting.
Kinyamal who also holds a life time best of 1:43.12 that he got in 2018 at the Müller Anniversary Games, will have to get past the World bronze medallist, Ben Pattison from Great Britain who holds a personal best of 1:44.6, the 2022 World silver medallist, Dhamel Sedjati from Algeria of pb 1:43.40 that he got early this year in Paris with two time Diamond League winner Slimane Moula also from Algeria coming here with the third fastest time on paper of 1:43.38 that he also got in Paris.
Other title contenders include Benjamin Robert from France, fifth in Paris Charlety in 1:43.48 and third in Xiamen in 1:43.88, reigning European U23 champion, Yanis Meziane from France and Daniel Rowden from Great Britain, fifth at the Monaco Diamond League meeting with a life time best of 1:43.95.
