World and Olympic 10,000m champion Almaz Ayana is back on the track after a long injury lay off ready to rule the world.
“I want to share an update as you have not heard from me in a while .I’ve returned to Addis Ababa undergoing a successful knee surgery in Switzerland in a full recovery mode” she said.
Ayana who won the Olympic title in 2016 with a world record and Olympic record of 29:17.45 time 30:16.32 said she will be ready to return to training in three months.
“I had a very difficult year dealing with a knee injury which made me miss the full season.
She said it was very hard for her to sit out and not being able to compete after becoming a world champion in 2017.
The Ethiopian runner said her goal is to defend her 10,000m title at the world championships in Doha next year.
“Am excited and looking for the future ahead. Thank you all so much for your support during this time and I cannot wait to see you again next year,” she quipped.
