After bagging her first ever running career title by securing gold medal in the women’s 1500m at the Africa Athletics Championships, Winny Chebet once again will lead the Kenyan team at the Birmingham Diamond League this afternoon(Saturday).
The Rongai Athletic Club (RAC) based athlete however will have to face off with the 2018 European 5000m gold medalist, Sifan Hassan from Netherlands who also won the 1500m bronze medal at the same event.
Chebet comes to the Muller games with a season best of 4:00.60 while Hassan carries 3:57.41 on her shoulders.
The 27 year-old has not been at her best level at the Diamond Leagues series this season but hopes that the Dutch National will push her for a podium place at the Alexander Stadium.
Ethiopian Tsegay Gudaf, the winner of this race in Stockholm is another athlete to watch this afternoon as she also comes with a season best of 3:57.64 which is also her personal best in this event.
Another Kenyan Nelly Jepkosgei will aslo be on the lineup as they will partner with Chebet seeking to destroy the presumptive party of the two Ethiopian born athletes.
