Kenya’s Winfridah Moraa Moseti smashed the course record at the 21st edition of the Madrid Half Marathon that was held on Sunday (4) in Madrid, Spain.
The 25 year-old who came to this race with a lifetime best of 1:08.22 that she got at last year’s edition where she finished in fourth place.
Moseti faced a deep field that included Rio Olympic 10,00m champion Almaz Ayana from Ethiopia, Dorcas Jepchumba Kimeli and Sharon Kemboi.
Moseti who knew the course so well that it motivated her to forge ahead and thrash the deep field and also erase the old course record of 1:07.46 that was set by Nelly Jepchumba last year and setting a new course record and a personal best of1:07.22.
Moseti was followed by Kemboi who also ran under the old course record as she crossed the line in second place in a time of 1:07.28.
Ethiopia’s Betelihem Afenigus Yemer closed the podium first three finishes in a time of 1:07.47.
The Nakuru City Half Marathon champion, Catherine Reline and double world champion Ayana finished in fourth and fifth place in a time of 1:08.07 and 1:08.22 respectively.
