We are coming up to the time of the year where the physically active among us will be focusing on their marathon training.
A marathon is a 26.2 mile run that really tests one’s mental and physical endurance.
Yet, despite sounding like some people’s idea of hell, people sign up in their thousands to take part in marathons across the country (and even further afield).

2021 marathon dates
When is the London Marathon?
The London Marathon will be held on Sunday, October 3.
The 2021 London Marathon will see up to 50,000 runners take on the traditional course from Greenwich to The Mall.
The marathon is usually held in April, and this is the second year in a row the date has been moved to October due to Covid restrictions forcing work and schedules to change.
When is the Brighton Marathon?
The Brighton Marathon will go ahead on Sunday, 12 September.
The event is set to take place following some Covid-safe measures.
A statement reads: ‘Despite the fact that many COVID-19 restrictions have now been lifted in the UK, the wellbeing of our participants, staff and community is of the utmost importance to us. We have therefore set out a number of key measures and changes that will be implemented this year, to mitigate any COVID-19 associated risk.’
These include staggered arrival times to Preston Park for competitors and start corrals to ensure social distancing.
The Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris, which typically takes place in April, has been moved to Sunday, October 17.
When is the Berlin Marathon?
The BMW Berlin Marathon is scheduled to take place in September as usual, with this year’s run being held on Sunday, September 26.
When is the Chicago Marathon?
The Bank Of America Chicago Marathon is set to be held in October this year, just as it typically is every year.
In 2021, the race will be on Sunday, October 10.
A statement for the event reads: ‘Event organizers are working closely with the City of Chicago, including the Chicago Department of Public Health, to safely produce a race weekend experience for event attendees and the Chicago community. Preparations for the October 2021 race will align with local and state coronavirus guidelines.’
When is the Boston Marathon?
The Boston Marathon is scheduled for Monday, October 11.
Boston Athletic Association President and CEO Tom Grilk said the marathon’s exact safety protocols are still being worked out.
When is the New York Marathon?
The 50th running of the TCS New York City Marathon is set for Sunday, November 7.
The TCS New York City Marathon is the largest marathon in the world and this year will include 33,000 runners, from the world’s top professional athletes to runners of all ages and abilities, including charity runners.
Participants tour the neighborhoods of New York City’s five boroughs—Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan.
