Kenya’s Victor Chumo out sprinted Hiskel Tewelde to earn the top nonor at the 22nd edition of the Lille Half Marathon that was held on Saturday (1) in Lille, France.
Chumo who came to this race with a personal best of 1:00.10 that he got at Venlo Half early this year, gave a powerful kick to pass the Ethiopian at the 100m mark, cutting the tape in a new personal best of 1:00.03. Tewelde followed him in second place a second later.
I had a fantastic race in the last few kilometers, I had heard a lot about the Lille half-marathon in Kenya, I trained to win it, so I’m not surprised by my performance,” Chumo said .
The 2016 Africa silver medallist, Wilfred Kimitei closed the first podium three places in 1:00.06.
Cosmas Birech, the 2018 Rome Marathon winner crossed the line in fourth with Erick Tirop coming home in fifth place in 1:00.07 and 1:00.20 respectively.
First Frenchman to cross the line was Halluinois Thomas Deleu who finished with a personal best of 1:00..54
