The 2014 Summer Youth Olympics 3000m champion, Thierry Ndikumwenayo beat a strong elite field that included World U20 3000m bronze medallist Levy Kibet at the 18th edition of the Cross Internacional de Atapuerca held on Sunday (13) in Atapuerca, Spain.
The 25 year-old did it not have it easy as he was pushed to the wire by the Kenyan youngster but managed to hold him off to claim the honors in a time of 27:57 with the latter crossing the finish line a second later.
The defending champion Rodrique Kwizera also from Burudi found the going tough as he came home in third in 28:01.
Puerto Rico’s Victor Ortiz and Spain’s Zakaria Boufaljat finished in fourth and fifth place in a time of 30:01. and 30:04 respectively.
