All eyes will be on the Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala as he ventures into the deepest field ever assembled at the 2023 Diamond League Final as the creme de la creme descends upon the historic city of Eugene, at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
The 26 year-old carries on his shoulder the second fastest time in the world this season of 9.84 that he got at home during the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi. He went into history books as the first ever Kenyan to win a Diamond League race in the 100m with a time of 9.92 in Monaco and also today he makes another history as the first to feature in finals.
The Commonwealth Games 100m champion who also took his second victory in Zagreb in 9.94 into a headwind of -0.9 m/s, will have an uphill task as he faces the triple gold medallist 100m, 200m and the 4×100 relay in Budapest, Noah Lyles, who also comes with the fastest time this year of 9.83 that he got at the World Champions. Lyles has also won one diamond league over the distance this season at the Paris Meeting. The American who won the Diamond League trophy in 2019 will also be chasing history as he tries to equal Renaud Lavillenie and Christian Taylor’s record of seven Diamond Trophies.
World silver medallist Letsile Tebogo from Zimbabwe is also in the race for the top honors as he comes with a life time best of 9.88 that he got in Budapest where he also beat Omanyala for the very first time.
Triple world champion Christian Coleman from United States who also equaled the world leading time of 9.83 at the Xiamen Diamond League where he took the honors is also on the start list as promises a good final outing of the season.
Jamaica have their hopes on Ackeem Blake, who won at the Los Angeles meeting with 9.89 beating Coleman, Kishane Thompson, second at the Xiamen meeting with a personal best of 9.85, will partner with 2011 World 100m champion, Yohan Blake and Olympic silver medallist in the 100m and 200m in London 2012
German National Record holder in 200m, Joshua Hartmann will be the only European sprinter in the line-up.
