The 2019 World Championships finalist in 5000m race, Telahun Bekele beat a strong deep elite field that included the two time World Indoor 1500m champion, Samuel Tefera at the Bislett Games held on Thursday (16) at the Bislett Stadium in Oslo, Norway.
The 23 year-old who came to this race with the fastest time on paper of 12:52.98 that he got at the 2019 Golden Gala where he took the honors, took charge of the race after an attempt by Australian Jack Rayner who went to the front with three laps to go. Bekele accelerated his gear surging ahead to cross the finish line in 13:03.51 with Tefera coming second in a new personal best of 13:04.35.
The 2019 African Games silver medallist in 3000m steeplechase, Getnet Wale closed the podium three finishes in a season best of 13:04.48.
United States Joe Klecker finished in fourth in 13:04.92 with 2019 World Cross Country Champion, Milkesa Mengesha from Ethiopia finishing in fifth in 13:05.95.
Rayner came home in sixth place with a new personal best of 13:06.00.
