Kenya’s Dan Tanui smashed his own course record when he defended his title at the 6th edition of the Walled City Marathon commonly known as Derry Marathon that was held on Sunday (3) in London.
Tanui who won the 2017 edition with 2:22.40 battled with another country mate Erick Koech who is the winner of last month’s Belfast Marathon and was also the 2016 Derry Marathon winner.
The Kenyan kept held his head high and managed to cut almost six minutes from his previous time to cut the time in new course record of 2:19.44.
“The weather conditions were favorable and I thank God that enabled me to win this race in a new course record,” Tanui said.
Tanui who led 1-2-3 Kenyan finish was followed by Freddy keron sittuk who crossed the line in 2:26.14 with Emmanuel Melly who closed the podium three in 2:28.54.
