Kenya’s Lucy Karimi took the top honors at the 36th edition of the Venice marathon held on Sunday (23) in Venice, Italy.
The 36 year-old who came to this race with the fastest time on paper of 2:24.24 that she got in 2020 at the Harmony Geneva Marathon where she won the bronze medal, led 1-2-3 Kenyan podium finish as she cut the tape in a time of 2:28.12 and was followed by Rebecca Kangogo Chesir who crossed the line in second in 2:29.14 with Caroline Jebet Korir who was making her debut over the distance, closing the podium three finishes in 2:29.14.
Burudi’s Elvanie Nimbona and Ethiopia’s Fantu Zewude Jifar came home in fourth and fifth in a time of 2:30.25 and 2:31.02 respectively.
The race course record of 2:23.37 that was set eleven years ago by Helena Kiprop remains standing.
