Jemeli eyes Nagoya women Marathon title

Kenya’s Valarie Jemeli is optimistic of winning the 38th edition of the Nagoya International Women’s marathon set for this Sunday (11) Nagoya, Japan.

Jemeli has had exploits in local races, especially cross country meetings, said she wants to become the first Kenyan to win the title that has lasted for 37 years without any Kenyan winning it which is the marathon powerhouse.

The former Barcelona Marathon champion said, “I will be competing in the race with my focus set to win,”.

The 2015 Kass International marathon champion went ahead to lift the Valencia marathon in 2016 with a course record of 2:24.48.

“I am optimistic of winning the race as part of my 2018 resolution. I have been training very well to ensure that I win my first international race this year. That will boost my moral ahead of other marathons across the world,” she concluded.

The 26 year-old will face three time champion Eunice Kirwa, also the 2016 Olympic marathon silver medalist. The Kenyan born turned Bahrain holds the course record she set in 2015 2:22.08.

The 33 year-old won the titles in 2015, 2016 and 2017, becoming the only runner in history to hit a hat trick.
