Clement Kiprono beats Emmanuel Naibei to lift the Rome Marathon title

Kenya’s Clement Langat Kiprono took top honors at the 26th edition of the Rome Marathon that was held early Sunday (19) morning in Rome, Italy.

The race was a truly unique edition, a ‘Dawn Edition Special Race“, because it was started almost in the dark, at the first light of day, to mark a rebirth of the city of Rome, of sport, of running, of well-being.

This was the first marathon for Kiprono as he fought a strong rich field that included the 2021 Lagos City Marathon winner Emmanuel Naibei to run away with his first marathon title in a personal best of 2:08.27.

Naibei followed him in second place one second later with Ethiopia’s Ulfata Deresa Geleta closing the first three podium finishes in 2:08.42.

Kenya’s David Kiprono Metto and Metaferia Bekele Muluneh from Ethiopia came home in fourth and fifth place in 2:09.45 and 2:14.46 respectively.

Mathew Kipsaat also from Kenya crossed the line in sixth place in 2:15.06.
