All Africa Games Medallist Nabbed for Doping

An All Africa Games medalist Kenyan sprinter has been busted ahead  of the forthcoming Africa Senior Championships in Nigeria for doping.

The sprinter who was headed to Nigeria for the Africa Senior Athletics Championships was nabbed by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) officials after a failed doping test case.

However, the sprinter was sent packing from Team Kenya camp, three days before the Kenyan contingent travels to Asaba, Nigeria for the Africa Senior Athletics Championships.

A source at the camp, disclosed that the sprinter is one of two short distance runners who have been apprehended by ADAKfor using performance enhancing drugs since the National Championships held June 21-23 at the Moi International Sports, Centre,Kasarani in Nairobi.

The sprinter becomes the third high profile athlete to test positive of some banned performance enhancing in the last two months after three times World 1,500m champion Asbel Kiprop and Kenyan-born Olympic 3,000m steeplechase gold medallist Bahrain’s Ruth Jebet.

The athlete, who represented Kenya at the 2013 Moscow and 2017 World Championship, won a medal for Kenya from the 2015 All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo and was part of Team Kenya for the 2014 Glasgow and 2017 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

The runner also represented Kenya at the 2012 Barcelona World Under-20 Championships, the 2016 World Indoor Championships in Portland, USA and the 2016 Africa Championships in athletics in Durban, South Africa.

“The case is no longer a secret at the camp as it is known but its now up to Athletics Kenya to disclose and confirm the case,” said the source.

Team Kenya team manager Abraham ‘Solo’ Mutai for the Africa Championships declined to comment on the development and instead referred the media to Athletics Kenya chief executive officer Susan Kamau as the only person with the authority to shed light on the matter.

When contacted for comment, Kamau’s phone went unanswered
