Kenya’s Emily Chebet kipchumba took the top honors at the 4th edition of the Eldoret City Marathon that was held on Sunday (10) in Uasin Gishu County, Eldoret.
The 24 year-old pulled away from the group of five at the 35km mark but Shyline Jepkorir Torotich the 2012 Ravenna marathon champion, stuck with her and they surged ahead together to the 41km mark where Chebet increased her pace to leave the latter gasping for air and cutting the tape in a time of 2:29.58. Torotich was forced to settle in second place in 2:30.13.
Lilian Jelagat closed the first three podium finishes in a time of 2:30.23.
Emily jepkemoi and Jackline Chelal finished in fourth and fifth place in a time of 2:30.52 and 2:32.21 respectively.
