Kenyan marathoners performed dismally at this year’s commonwealth women marathon that was held in the wee hours of Sunday in Southport Broadwater, Australia.
The first Kenyan to cross the line was Sheila Jerotich with a time of 2:36.19 finishing in fifth place.
The race was won by Namibian Helalia Johannes who sprinted away from the leading pack of four athletes to cut the tape in 2:32.40 and was closely followed by two Australians Lisa Weightman and Jessica Trengove of 2:33.23 and 2:34.09 respectively.
Shelmith Nyawira who was poised to take the crown finished a disappointing tenth place in 2:47.53 with Hellen Musyoka also from Kenya not finishing the race.
