ASABA 2018: Kenyan Sprinter Mark Otieno Eliminated in 100m Dash

sprinter Mark Otieno was eliminated in the 100m dash of the Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Asaba, Nigeria as day two of the events unfolded on Thursday (August 2nd).

Otieno was placed sixth in the second semifinals heat by timing 10.69 in a race won by 2012 Africa champion South Africa’s Simon Magakwe in 10.37.

Homeboy Nigeria’s Ogunlewe Adeseye was placed second in 10.39 as the heat’s pre-race favourite All Africa Games double gold medalist Ben Youssef Meite of Côte d’Ivoire clocked 10.42 in third spot.

Commonwealth Games champion South Africa’s Akani Simbine stayed on course of a successful title defence by winning in the first heat by timing in 10.32 edging the 2015 Africa 4x100m relays silver medalist Botwsawana’s Karabo Mothibi into second spot in with Ghana’s Emmanuel Yeboah claiming third place in 10.49.

The 2017 Jeux de la Francophonie double silver medalist Arthur Gue Cissé emerged winner in the third heat in 10.29 beating Zimbabwe’s national 100m and long jump record holder Ngani Makusha in 10.36 as Namibia’s Gilbert Maseko Hainuca was third in 10.43.

The first two in each automatically qualify and joined by the other two fastest sprinters.
