Monica Cheruto wins the Münster Marathon

Kenya’s Monica Cheruto won the 19th edition of the Volksbank Münster women Marathon that was held on Sunday (12).

Cheruto who is a member of Kimawit Athletics Club and had travelled as individuals to this race did not disappoint as she claimed the women marathon title comfortably in 2:35.17. She was followed in a distant second in 2:15.18.

The spectators were eagerly awaiting the performance of Johanna Rellensmann in her first marathon, after she had already achieved a top time of 1:16 hours in the Dresden half marathon this year. As expected, she was the fastest German in 2:44.09 hours and third in the overall standings.

Samuel Lomoi beats Francis Cheruiyot at Münster Marathon

Kenya’s Samuel Lomoi took the top honors at the 19th edition of the Volksbank Münster Marathon that was held on Sunday (12).

Lomoi had to battle his fellow compatriot Francis Cheruiyot, who was considered as the race favorite on paper.

Lomi who is a member of the Kimawit Athletics Club, cut the tape in 2:12.14 with Cheruiyot coming home three minutes later in 2:15.18.

There was tension among the men in the “Fastest German” category, especially when Elias Sansar and Raoul Jankowski met again after several years, both of whom have roughly the same best times. Nevertheless, the fastest serial winner in the ranking of the fastest Germans, Elias Sansar, managed to finish third in the overall standings and fastest German with a lead of almost 3 minutes.

Two more Germans Raoul Jankowski Germany and Manuel Kruse Germany came home in fourth and fifth place place in 2:28.09 and 2:29.00
