Kenya’s Caroline Nyaga gifted her country another gold medal in the women 10,000m race at the 22ndd edition of the Africa Senior Championships in Reduit, Mauritius.
The 28 year-old who came to this race with life time best of 31:55.45 fought off Uganda’s Zena Racheal Chebet, Ethiopian marathoner Meseret Gebre Dekebo and her compatriot, Purity Komen.
Nyaga was too swift as she pulled away from the three challengers to forge ahead and become the new African 10,000m race queen with a new personal best of 32:12.61.
Uganda’s 5000m specialist Chebet took silver in 32:17.66 with Dekebo closing the podium three finishes in a time of 32:25.97.
Uganda’s 5000m National Record holder Sarah Chelangat and the third leg Athletics Kenya 10,000m champion, Purity Komen came home in fourth and fifth place in a time of 32:57.11.
Kenya stands on the medal table with five gold, two silver and five bronze medals.
