Kenya’s Symon Kibai Cherono won gold in 10,000m race on the first day of the 4th edition of the World Deaf Athletics Championships that are ongoing at the Lublin Athletics Stadium in Poland
The 34 year-old, who is the deaf Olympics 5000m record holder proved his prowess as he took gold in a season best of 29:44.44.
Cherono bagged three gold medals for Kenya in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2013 in 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m. He also won two gold medals in Samsun, Turkey in 5000m and 10,000m and a bronze medal in 1500m.
Sweden’s Otto Kingstedt spoiled the Kenya podium party as he came in second to take the silver in 29:47.31with Martin Ndung’u from Kenya closing the podium three finishes in 30:12.40.
Another Kenyan Peter Toroitich Wareng crossed the line in fourth place with a season best of 30:53.69.
