Marcell Jacobs beats Christian Coleman by thickness of a vest

Olympic 100m champion Marcell Jacobs beat Christian Coleman by just a three-thousands of a second at the 18th edition of the World Indoor Championships that was held in the Serbian capital’s Stark Arena in Belgrade.

Jacob defeated Coleman with a distance of the proverbial thickness of a vest with the victory in the 60m race in a European Record of 6:61 erasing 13 years record set by Dwain Chambers in 2009 by 0.01 seconds.

The Italian was also satisfied with beating Coleman that many considered to be their favorite for the Olympic title in Tokyo as well as the world record-holder at the Indoor championship.

Coleman is also the reigning world 100m champion but he is arguably an even better 60m sprinter, not having chalked up a defeat at this distance since 2016 prior to this evening.

Coleman who was returning to international competition after missing the Tokyo Olympics due to the one year six months suspension, partnered with his teammate Marvin Bracy but Jacobs once again timed his peak to perfection forcing the two to settle in second and third in a time of 6.41 and 6.44 respectively.

“I hoped and prayed, please first, and it happened,” he said. He was then asked whether he thought he had proved a point. “Of course,” he replied. “Now I’m an Olympic and world champion,” said Jacobs.
