Kenya’s Reuben Kerio won the 98th edition of the Kosice Marathon that was held on Sunday (3) in Košice, Slovakia.
Kerio was targeting the race course record of 2:07.01 that was set in 2012 by Lawrence Kimaiyo from Kenya. He missed it by only seventeen seconds making him the second fastest on the course as he cut the tape in a personal best of 2:07.18.
Kerio was closely followed by Hiribo Shano from Ethiopia who crossed the line 30 seconds later with Albert Kipkosgei Kangogo also from Kenya closing the first three podium finishes in 2:07.52
Jackson Kiprop from Uganda and Deribe Melka Robi from Ethiopia finished in fourth and fifth place in 2:08.28 and 2:10.03 respectively.
The organizers prepared interesting financial bonuses for the best in the overall ranking. Kerio and Tadesse ran a sub 2:10. They will each receive fifteen thousand euros. This is apart from the prize money.
