Africa’s fastest man in 100m Ferdinand Omanyala lost his first race of the season as he was beaten to second by Sri Lanka’s National 200m record holder Yupun Abeykoon at the 24 Internationales Leichtathletik Meeting, which is also the World Athletics Continental bronze Tour meeting held at the Paul Greifzu Stadium in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.
This is the second defeat that Omanyala has received from the south Asia Record holder in 200m race. He beat Omanyala at the International Castiglione Athletics five days ago in 200m.
Abeykoon came to this race with the third fastest time on paper of 10.09 seconds that he got last year in May 2021 in Savona, but he managed to change the narrative after he was beaten in the heat by the Kenyan as he held him off to cross the line in finals with a new Sri Lankan and South Asia 100m record of 10.04 seconds.
It has been a record-breaking season for the sprinter as he has established some incredible times in the 100m, 150m and 200m over the last month.
The Italy based Abeykoon was followed by Omanyala who crossed the line in second place10.14 seconds.
