Collins Kipruto to battle Cornelius Tuwei at Paavo Nurmi Games

Kenya’s Collins Kipruto will be the star to watch in the men’s 800m race at the Paavo Nurmi Games which is a World Athletics continental tour gold level series that will be held on Tuesday (14) in Turku, Finland.

The 27 year-old who broke the meeting record at Eure Athletics Meeting in February  will battle his compatriot Cornelius Tuwei who comes to this race with the fastest time on paper of 1:43.76 that at the KBC Nacht van de Atletiek, where he took the honor.

Olympic 4×400 silver medallist Tony Van Diepen has also been lined up to fight for the title as he also holds a life time best of 1:44.31 that he got at the Continental Tour Gold meeting in Bydgoszcz.

Kipruto who holds the second fastest time here of 1:43.95, will also battle with the European silver medallist, Andreas Kramer from Sweden who comes with a personal best of 1:44.58 and the 20-year-old Max Burgin from Great Britain, who finished third in his seasonal best of 1:44.54 in Ostrava.

Other title contender includes Gabriel Tual from France, who finished seventh in the Olympic final in Tokyo.

Nadia Battocletti breaks Italian indoor 3000m record

Two-time European U23 cross country champion Nadia Battocletti set her first Italian senior record in 3000m race at the 6th edition of the Eure Athletics Meeting which is a World Athletics Indoor tour silver level that was held on Monday (14) at the Jesse Owens Stadium in Val-de-Reuil (Eure).

Battocletti finished second in a stunning time of 8:41.75 World U20 800m champion Ayal Dagnachaw from Ethiopia who won in a sprint finish in 8:41.32 on her debut over the distance.

The 21 year-olds time was an outright lifetime best as she also shaved three seconds off the previous national indoor record of 8:44.81 which was set in 2007 by Silvia Weissteiner at the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

Only two Italian female athletes have ever run faster outdoors times; former three-time European champion Agnese Possamai who holds a personal best of 8:37.96 that she got in 1983 and 1996 Olympic 5000m bronze medallist Roberta Brunet who holds a lifetime best of 8:35.65 that she got in 1997.

 

Collins Kipruto sets a Meeting Record in Val De Reuil

Kenya’s Collins Kipruto set a New Meeting Record in 800m race at the 6th edition of the Eure Athletics Meeting which is a World Athletics Indoor tour silver level that was held at the Jesse Owens Stadium in Val-de-Reuil (Eure).

 The 27 year-old led a Kenyan 1-2 podium finish as he battled his fellow country-mate Noah Kibet who is World U20 bronze medallist but Kipruto was too good with his kick as he left him gasping for breath crossing the line with a new Meet record of 1:47.05. Kibet came home in second twenty five seconds later.

Mostafa Smaili from Morocco closed the podium finishes with the same time as Kibet of 1:47.27.

Spain’s Alvaro De Arriba and Cornelius Tuwei from Kenya finished in fourth and fifth place in 1:47.97 and 1:48.38 respectively.

Halimah Nakaayi sets 800m World Lead in Val De Reuil

World outdoor champion Halimah Nakaayi ran a world leading time in the 800m race at the 6th edition of the Eure Athletics Meeting which is a World Athletics Indoor tour silver level that was held at the Jesse Owens Stadium in Val-de-Reuil (Eure).

 Nakaayi slashed almost two seconds from her indoor personal best as she battled Olympian marathoner Tigist Girma from Ethiopian and her fellow country-mate Winnie Nanyondo, the 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist.

The 27 year-old was on another mission as she surged with an electric speed to cross the line in the fastest time in the world indoors this season of 1:59.55.

She was followed by Girma who finished in a distant place in a time of 2:01.68.

Nanyondo closed the first three podium finishes in a time of 2:02.14.

Ferdinard Omanyala beaten by a whisker at Eure Athletics

After breaking the National Record for the second time in France, Africa’s fastest man Ferdinard Omanyala managed to hold Michael Rodgers from the United States in the 60m race at the 6th edition of the Meeting de l’Eure Val De Reuil which is a World Athletics Indoor tour silver level that was held at the Jesse Owens Stadium in Val-de-Reuil (Eure).

Omanyala was at it again but the timer allowed the 36-year-old Rodgers to take his first international victory though they shared the same time of 6.64 seconds.

Marvin Rene from France closed the first three podium finishes in 6.65 seconds
