Kenya’s Gladys Chepkirui crushed the course record of the 26th edition of the Napoli City Half Marathon that was held on Sunday (27) in Napoli Italy.
The 27 year-old took on Ethiopia’s Bezabh Ftaw Zeray for the better part of the race but took charge from the 15km mark to run solo for the reminder of the race smashing the previous course of 1:09.57 that had been set by Ethiopia’s Gebre Belainesh in 2011, setting a course record and a personal best of 1:08.09.
Zeray was forced to settle in second place also coming home under the old course record as she crossed the line in a time of1:09.36.
Ukrainian now trading for Italy Sofiia Yaremchuk closed the first three podium finishes in a new personal best time of 1:10.13.
Germany’s Schoneborn Rabea and Epland Pernilla Eugenie from Norway finished in fourth and fourth place in a time of 1:13.10 and 1:14.50 respectively.
