Alex Kibet wins the Berlin Half Marathon

Kenya’s Alex Kibet missed the course record by just 13 seconds at the 41st edition of the Generali Berlin Half Marathon that was held on Sunday (3) In Berlin, Germany.

The 31 year-old who came to this race as the second fastest athlete with a time of 59:06, took the initiative soon after the 10km mark as he broke away and no-one was able to challenge him in the second half of the race.

Kibet forged ahead to clock the second fastest time ever run in the history of this race as he cut the tape in a life time of 58:55.

“I hoped to run quite a bit faster, but it was difficult in the cold conditions. I have not broken the world record today, but at least I have won the race, “said Kibet.

Kibet led 1-2-3 Kenyan podium finish as he was followed by Joshua Belet who crossed the line in a time of 59:53 with race favourite Abel Kipchumba closing the first three podium finishes in a time of 59:58.

Kenya’s Josphat Kemei finished in fourth in 1:00.03.

Norway’s Zerei Mezngi and Dominic Lobalu of Switzerland were the fastest Europeans taking fifth and sixth positions in a time of 1:00.42 and 1:01.01 respectively.
