Kenya’s Sebastian Kirimu Sawe broke the race course record of the 47th edition of the Roma Ostia Half Marathon that was held on Sunday (6) in Roma, Italy.
Sawe led a 1and 3 Kenyan podium finish as he erased the previous course record of 58:44 that had been set in 2016 by Solomon Kirwa Yego.
Sawe set the new course record of 58:02 and was followed by Ethiopian Diriba Gemechu Dida who crossed the line in a time of 59:21.
“Today is my second race in Europe; the conditions for racing were fantastic. I am happy and excited for this result,” said Sawe.
Kenya’s Leonard Langat Kipkoech closed the first three podium finishes in 59:22.
Moses Koech and Sila Kiptoo both from Kenya finished in fourth and fifth place in a time of 59:31 and 59:56 respectively.
The top six men all passed the finish line under the one-hour barrier.
