Saina Kipkemboi thrashes Buenos Aires Marathon course record

Kenya’s Saina Kipkemboi thrashed the course record of the 34th edition of the Buenos Aires Marathon that was held on Sunday (23) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Kipkemboi produced one of the finest kicks ever experienced at this course as he thrashed both the defending champion Barnabas Kiptum and the race course record by four minutes 26 seconds.

The race course record was set by Kiptum last year when he cut the tape in 2:09.46 and was smashed by Kipkemboi when he set a new course record of 2:05.20, the fastest ever marathon South America.

Kiptum came in a distant second in a new personal best of 2:09.19.

Peru’s Cristian Pacheco an Olympian closed the first three podium finishes in 2:11.18.

The first Argentine to cross the line was Miguel Ángel Barzola, who finished in seventh place in 2:16.46.
