ASABA 2018: Organisers Apologise for Disorganisation

The 2018 Asaba Africa Senior Athletics Championships Local Organising Committee (LOC) has apologized for travel hitch that inconvenienced athletes en route for the continental showpiece.

Oba made the apology during a press conference in Asaba where was accompanied by the Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA) President Hamad Kalkaba Malboum and IAAF President Lord Sebastian Coe, after Thursday’s morning session.

Chairman of the LOC of Asaba 2018, Chief Solomon Ogba “apologized and accepted the shortcomings” experienced so far in the Championships.

Ogba: “We have made plans for six planes to leave Asaba on the 6th. However, that is dependent on the departure schedules sent to us by the federations, and their deadline for submission is today (Thursday).”

Over 300 hundred athletes and officials were left stranded for days at the Mohammed Murtala Airport in Lagos after they failed to connect flights to Asaba being forced to spend their nights at the airport.

Morocco and Tanzania were amongst the countries that withdrew from the 21st edition of the continental championships due to disorgnisation.
