Great Britain’s Elliot Giles delivered another master class of 800m running as he bided his time to glide with the overall title at the Villa de Madrid Indoor Meeting which is a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold level meeting that was held on Tuesday (2) in Madrid, Spain.
Giles who has been in great shape in recent times settled in behind the pacemaker and Mariano Garcia in the early stages, and despite the Spaniard moving ahead before the bell. Giles ran a composed last lap to overtake Garcia after the final bend taking his third win in this season’s circuit with a Meeting Record of 1:45.43.
“The plan was to win, nothing but to win. I figured I race these boys all the time. I know how to beat them, and while it didn’t quite happen the way I planned. It was great to get the win,” said Giles.
Garcia was forced to settle in second place with a time of 1:45.82 with Alvaro de Arriba closing the podium three finishes in a time of 1:45.97.
Kenya’s Collins Kipruto who beat Giles at the Müller Indoor Grand Prix, finished a disappointing fifth in a time of 1:46.18.
