Collins Kipruto disappoints as Elliot Giles takes overall 800m title in Madrid

Great Britain’s Elliot Giles delivered another master class of 800m running as he bided his time to glide with the overall title at the Villa de Madrid Indoor Meeting which is a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold level meeting that was held on Tuesday (2) in Madrid, Spain.

Giles who has been in great shape in recent times settled in behind the pacemaker and Mariano Garcia in the early stages, and despite the Spaniard moving ahead before the bell. Giles ran a composed last lap to overtake Garcia after the final bend taking his third win in this season’s circuit with a Meeting Record of 1:45.43.

“The plan was to win, nothing but to win. I figured I race these boys all the time. I know how to beat them, and while it didn’t quite happen the way I planned. It was great to get the win,” said Giles.

Garcia was forced to settle in second place with a time of 1:45.82 with Alvaro de Arriba closing the podium three finishes in a time of 1:45.97.

Kenya’s Collins Kipruto who beat Giles at the Müller Indoor Grand Prix, finished a disappointing fifth in a time of 1:46.18.

Collins Kipruto sets a Meeting Record in Val De Reuil

Kenya’s Collins Kipruto set a New Meeting Record in 800m race at the 6th edition of the Eure Athletics Meeting which is a World Athletics Indoor tour silver level that was held at the Jesse Owens Stadium in Val-de-Reuil (Eure).

 The 27 year-old led a Kenyan 1-2 podium finish as he battled his fellow country-mate Noah Kibet who is World U20 bronze medallist but Kipruto was too good with his kick as he left him gasping for breath crossing the line with a new Meet record of 1:47.05. Kibet came home in second twenty five seconds later.

Mostafa Smaili from Morocco closed the podium finishes with the same time as Kibet of 1:47.27.

Spain’s Alvaro De Arriba and Cornelius Tuwei from Kenya finished in fourth and fifth place in 1:47.97 and 1:48.38 respectively.
