Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debale Gudeta crashed the course record at the tenth edition of the Trento Half Marathon that was held on Sunday (3) in Piazza Duomo, Italy.
The 18 year-old pulled away from his fierce competitor, Joshua Belet and made the decisive kick to leave the Kenyan gasping for more air cutting the tape in a new course record of 1:00.15. Gudeta cut off 57 seconds of the previous record that had been set in 2019.
Belet who came to this race with a personal best of 1:10.11 that he got at the Standard Chartered Nairobi Half-Marathon in 2019, was forced to settle in second position in a new personal best of 1:01.37.
Aymanot Alew from Ethiopia closed the first three podium finishes in 1:01.57.
