Nadia Battocletti breaks Italian indoor 3000m record

Two-time European U23 cross country champion Nadia Battocletti set her first Italian senior record in 3000m race at the 6th edition of the Eure Athletics Meeting which is a World Athletics Indoor tour silver level that was held on Monday (14) at the Jesse Owens Stadium in Val-de-Reuil (Eure).

Battocletti finished second in a stunning time of 8:41.75 World U20 800m champion Ayal Dagnachaw from Ethiopia who won in a sprint finish in 8:41.32 on her debut over the distance.

The 21 year-olds time was an outright lifetime best as she also shaved three seconds off the previous national indoor record of 8:44.81 which was set in 2007 by Silvia Weissteiner at the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

Only two Italian female athletes have ever run faster outdoors times; former three-time European champion Agnese Possamai who holds a personal best of 8:37.96 that she got in 1983 and 1996 Olympic 5000m bronze medallist Roberta Brunet who holds a lifetime best of 8:35.65 that she got in 1997.
