Eritrea-born Swiss professional runner, Tadese Abraham smashed the Swiss National Record at the 19th edition of the Zurich Marathon that was held on Sunday (10) in Zurich, Switzerland.
The 39 year-old who is participating in his third marathon pulled away from Oliver Irabaruta from Burudi and Francis Cheruiyot from Kenya at the 30km mark and he never looked ahead but increased his pace 30km mark and running solo for the reminder of the race with a faster second half than in the first (63:50 and 62:48 minutes).
The 2016 European Half Marathon Champion surged ahead with a tactical and physical little masterpiece that works for him as he cut the tape with a new National Record and personal best of 2:06.38.
The Asmara born athlete was followed a distant later by Irabaruta who crossed the line with a personal best of 2:07.17 with Cheruiyot closing the first three podium finishes in a time of 2:09.57.
