After clinching the 10,000m race gold on the first day of the 4th edition of the World Deaf Athletics Championships, Symon Kibai Cherono has doubled it again in 5000m at the ongoing Lublin Athletics Stadium in Poland.
Cherono came to this race with a season best of 14:49.00 behind Sweden’s Otto Kingstedt who was the fastest runner on paper with a season best 14:20.11.
The 34 year-old, who holds the deaf Olympics 5000m record holder of 14:02.90 led a 1-2 podium finish as he crossed the line a new season best of 14:25.19.
He was closely followed by David Kiptum Kipkogei who took silver in a season best of 14:28.71 with the Kingstedt forced to settle on bronze with in 14:31.50.
Another Kenyan Martin Gachie Ndungu finished in fourth place in a season best of 14:42.09.
Kenya is second on the medal table with two golds, one silver and two bronze totaling to five medals.
