Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has stated that female athletes need to have a welfare group to support young girls in the society.
The CS was speaking in Nandi at Agnes Jebet Tirop home where she urged parents to instill good values in a family to avoid such incidences in future like Tirop, who was suspected to have been murdered by her husband Ibrahim Rotich who is now at the Eldoret Police station.
“This young man had bad ideas in his mind where he must have planned the murder from long time ago and he executed it very well,” said Amina when she visited the family and the place where the funeral will be held on Saturday.
She said that what Rotich did was a reflection and the mirror of parenting.
“This is a reflection of to us as parents. Any parent in this country is asking many questions on how did I bring up my boy child, what values did Instill in him,” asked Amina.
Tirop, the 2015 world cross country champion was found murdered in her house in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County last Wednesday and the postmortem done on her body on Wednesday revealed that she died from losing too much blood through the cuts she encountered.
The Olympian’s prime suspect, Rotich was arrested three days later in Mombasa and presented before Iten court on Monday and remanded for 20 more days to allow police complete their investigations.
