Dutch National Siffan Hassan lived to her expectations as she outclassed world 5000m chanpion Hellen Obiri from Kenya at the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games.
Hassan took her first Olympic title in 14:36.79 with Obiri coming in silver to take the silver medal, with Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay closing the the first three podium finishes.
Hassan is trying to secure 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m gold, which has never been achieved at the Games before.
To reach the top of the podium three times, the 28-year-old will need to come through six races in nine days and cover 24,500m, well over a half marathon.
