The seventh fastest 100m woman in all conditions, Sha’Carri Richardson has come out boldly to stop the exploitation of athletes.
The 23 year-old will be fighting for a place in USA team during their trials slated to be held from July 5th – 9th,after missing out at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, held at home in Eugene, Oregon due to failing to compete at the at the 2022 USATF Championships trials.
Richardson, who has been on fire this season, released an Instagram video proposing a strategic meeting between athletes especially those coming for the USA team selection trials.
“…If you as an athlete has an issue with the things that are going on within track and field in the United States, the changes that are going on, the decisions that are being made, everything that we as athletes has no say on,” she said.
“Not knowing who to turn, not knowing who to complain to, I just want to drop a link for an idea for all of us to come together and actually sit down,
“And actually come up with a strategy as athletes to create a voice for ourselves and create an actual organization to what we know that is going to impact and build us as athletes and to build our sport in the United States and not just continue to exploit us.”
Reports also emerged that Nike had a contract agreement with USATF that senior athletics championships will always take place in Oregon, without the knowledge or consulting the athletes and the accessibility/high cost of living of the state for travelers.
