Kenya’s Sarah Naibei shattered the course record at the Flanigan’s Rockin’ Rib Run 10K Race held on Sunday (19) in Miami, Florida.
Naibei who came to this race with a personal best of 33:11 that she got three years ago at the FNB Durban 10K City Surf Run, where she finished in seventh place beat a strong field that included the race course record holder Vicoty Chepngeno who was also the defending champion. Chepngeno who was the fastest athlete on the entry list with a life time best of 30:14 that she got last year at the 10K FACSA Castelló, where she finished in second place, was beaten to second and her course record crashed by Naibei with a new course time and personal best of 31:28.
The 30 year-old found the going tough and was forced to settle in second place in a time of 31:36 with Argentina’s Florencia Borelli putting on an impressive performance, setting a new South American record of 31:58 to close the podium three finishes.
The 2023 African U20 4x400m relay silver medallist, Mahlet Mulugeta of Ethiopia, Kenya’s Mary Munanu and Joyline Chemutai from International Elite T.C stable finished in fourth, fifth and sixth place in respective time of 31:58, 32:15 and 32:45.
