Double Africa U20 silver medallist, Sandrafelis Chebet stormed to victory at the First Athletics Kenya Cross Country Championships held on Saturday (14) at Machakos People’s Park in Machakos County.
The 25 year-old beat a strong field that included Mercy Chepkorir and Teresa Cherotich from Lemotit Athletics Camp based in Nakuru County.
Chebet who took charge of the race with one last lap to go, surged ahead solo to cut the tape first in a time of 34:02.6 and was followed in second a distant later by Chepkorir in 34:04.4 with Cherotich wrapping up the podium three finishes in 35:09.1.
MOnicah Wanjiru and Winfred Mbite of Kenya Police finished in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 35:25.0 and 35:48.6.
In the Men’s category Vincent Mutai from Kenya Defense Force took the honors in 29.39.1 with Arthunus Kioko from Machakos coming home insecond in 29:42.2 with Kenya Police Brian Kiptoo sealing the podium three finishes in 30:07.6.
Kenya Police Kiplimo Naibei and Shadrack Kiptoo finished in fourth and fifth place in a time of 30:20.4 and 30:26.4 respectively.
