Kenya’s Samuel Kosgei broke the course record at the 43 edition of the Barcelona Marathon that was held on Sunday (7) in Barcelona, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.
Kosgei who came to this race with a personal best of 2:06.53 that he got at the 2016 Dubai Standard Chartered Marathon fought off a strong field that included the 2019 Dublin Marathon winner Othmane El Goumri from Morocco and Mohamed Ziani also from morocco.
Kosgei broke away from the two and never looked back to surge ahead and break the race course record of 2:06.04 that had been set in 2019 by Alemu Bekele from Ethiopia.
The 35 years-old cu t the tape in a new personal best and course record time of 2:06.04 cutting off two seconds from the previous record.
El Goumri who was banned in 2016 for two years as a result of irregularities in his biological passport came home second in a new personal best of 2:06.30 with Ziani closing the first three podium finishes in a new personal best of 2:06.33.
