World Athletics Race Walking bronze medallist, Samuel Kireri Gathimba defended his 20 km Race Walk title at the just concluded 22nd edition of the Africa Senior Championships in Reduit, Mauritius.
Gathimba who wrote history as he walked away with the first ever bronze medal in the Race walking race in Muscat, Oman early this year, defended his African title when he crossed the finish line in 1:22.04.
The 34 year-old who is now a four time Africa medallist battle for honors in a hotly contested walk but managed to hold his competitors to emerge the winner in 1:22.05 with the 2015 African Games bronze medallist, Wayne Snyman taking the silver in 1:22.05. Ethiopia’s Yohanis Wale finished in third place in 1:22.21.
Another Ethiopian Misgana Fekansa and egypt’s Mohamed Ragab came home in fourth and fifth in a time of 1:22.48 and 1:26.07 respectively.
