A delayed race start couldn’t slow down Hillary Bor as he ran away with men’s title at the USATF 15km Championships, held on Saturday in Jacksonville USA.
The 33 year-old took on Teshome Asfaha Mekonen and Jacob Thomson leading a pack of a half dozen men but the two pulled away from the lead group at the four mile and started to push the pace, separating themselves from the rest of the field and making it a two-man race
Bor and Mekonen passed the 10km mark in 28:42, about 20 seconds ahead of the chase pack, which consisted of Thomson, USATF Half Marathon runner-up Leonard Korir, fifth place finisher Brian Shrader, and Reid Buchanan.
Bor took charge of the race and pulled away from Mekonen who could not respond to the powerful kick that made the latter surge further ahead cutting the cut in 43:11 with Korir passing Mekonen who was dropping fast to claim the second spot in 43:51.
Brian Shrader closed the podium three finishes in a time of 43:59 with Mekonen finishing a distant sixth in 44:16.
