The organisers of the 12th edition of the Nagoya Women’s Marathon have announced the official opening of registration of the race which is slated for Sunday, March 10, 2024 in Nagoya, Japan.
The Women’s only marathon which is “largest women’s running festival in the world,” is expecting 20,000 participants, including 3,500 international runners.
The Nagoya Women’s Marathon is certified by Guinness World Records as the largest women’s marathon in the world and is a World Athletics Platinum Label race. The coming Marathon will be held five months before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with Japanese women’s marathon team using it as a qualifier for the Olympics.
Participants who reach the finish line will receive a specially designed pendant from global luxury jeweler Tiffany & Co. as a memento of their achievement.
The 2019 world marathon champion, Ruth Chepngetich who is the reigning champion after running solo and claiming back-to-back victory with a time of 2:18.08, failed to live to her expectations lowering her course record time of 2:17:18 as she had planned.
Chepngetich was followed in second place by more than three minutes later by Japan’s Ayuko Suzuki in 2:21.52 with her compatriot Honami Maeda wrapping up the podium three finishes in a time of 2:22.32.
