World 10,000m bronze medallist, Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi was beaten to second by Eritrea’s Rahel Daniel, at the 66th edition of the Campaccio-International Cross Country which is the tenth Gold race of the World Athletics Cross Country Tour of this season, held on Friday (06) in San Giorgio su Legnano, Italy.
Kipkemboi who was familiar with this course after taking second place in her previous appearance at the 2020 edition, could not handle the powerful kick of Daniel who pulled away from her at the final 20m mark.
The 21 year-old who won the Cross Country Tour races in Atapuerca in 2021 and Albufeira in 2022, and finished second in last year’s Campaccio behind Dawit Seyaum in an exciting final sprint, used her vast mud experience to beat the 2019 World Championships Bronze medallist, Kipkemboi when she cut the tape first in a time of 19:10 with the latter coming home second in two seconds later.
Kenya’s Miriam Chebet, who finished in fourth place last Saturday at the Cursa dels Nassos in Barcelona closed the podium three finishes in 19:31.
